3 - Think about your use

To make sure the performance of your new tires is right for your use, think about the following points:

Your driving style

At Michelin, we offer different tyre ranges to fit different needs. For example, some are specially designed for sporty driving, others for quieter driving or for fuel economy. Ask yourself what driving style suits you so you can be guided to the correct tire category.

Your climatic conditions

We have summer, winter and all-season tires whose performance is designed according to climatic conditions.

When the temperature drops below 7°C, winter tires are better than summer tires.
When the temperature becomes milder again, your winter tires can then be replaced with summer tyres.
This also applies if you live in a place with moderate temperatures and that you frequently travel by car where winter temperatures are more severe, eg in the mountains for skiing.

All-season tires are otherwise a polyvalent solution.

The type of roads you drive on

Do you drive more often on city roads, country roads or highways? This is a criteria that can also be taken into account when buying tires.

The distance you cover per year on average

This is one of the questions your dealer is likely to ask you. If you do not know how many miles you cover yearly on average, a very simple calculation allows you to determine it:

  • How many miles does your odometer display?
If your car was used when you bought it, subtract the number of miles that had been driven at the time of purchase.
  • How many years have you owned your car?

Divide the first number by the second and you will know how many kilometers you drive on average each year.

This information will also help your dealer guide you to the most suitable range of tires depending on whether you drive a lot, moderately or little.

Visiting the tire shop

By following these points, you will have well prepared your visit to the tire dealer. You will then be able to answer all the important questions and buy the right tires for your use
